Last Seen Alive by Joanna Schaffhausen

First of all, this is not the first book in the series, but I didn’t realize that… until after I’d finished the book! So either I’m dumb, or this author does amazing work making sure her series can be read as a standalone. (I guess both could be true!)

I’m reading a lot of suspense lately and this one was just spectacular. I love the messed up heroine and her slightly messed up on-again-off-again guy. Ellery and Reed are fabulous characters. There’s a great romance here.

And the suspense was terrific. I was so uncomfortable near the end that I had to put it down and take a breath.

After reading this one (my favorite!) I went back and read the rest of the series. It did not disappoint.
