I was sent this book by the publisher a couple of years ago. I was supposed to be working, but I had a cold and used that as an excuse to blow off my day and just read this. It’s not like I could stop.

The way this couple meets is so moving. He’s a widower, and not doing very well. The child is well drawn. The writing is flawless.

Midway through this book I emailed the editor to tell her that if this was actually the author’s first novel, then I’m the Queen of England. She told me to go drink some tea with my pinky lifted.

This author’s true gift is to invest her characters with vivid realism. It’s the kind of writing that makes you ache. If you love slow-burn romance about real, flawed humans, don’t miss this one.
